FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • How do I care for my Phospho Candle?
When lighting your soy Phospho candle for the first time, it is best to allow the candle to burn until the wax has melted all the way to the sides of the jar. This will help to ensure consistent burns in the future and will avoid any tunnelling of the wax. The recommended maximum burn time of Phospho candles is 4 hours for all candles and 1-2 hours for all tealights. Wicks should be trimmed prior to relighting each time – this can be done by simply pinching off any blackened wick to allow the fresh wood to be lit underneath. For added safety, ensure the flame is completely extinguished after each use.
  • How to burn my candle safely?
Never leave a lit candle unattended. Always keep out of the reach of pets and children. Place the candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface and avoid exposure to drafts and away from clothing, books, curtains or anything flammable. Candle vessels may become hot when candles are lit; to ensure safety, never move a lit candle and avoid burning candle all the way to the bottom of the jar. Place burning candles at least 3 inches apart and always refer to the safety sticker on the bottom of each candle for further information.
  • How do I store my Phospho candle?
Always store your Phospho candle in a cool, dry place and away from direct sunlight.
  • What kind of wick is used in Phospho Candle Co.?
Phospho uses natural wooden wicks in our candles and 100% cotton wicks in our tealights. The wooden wicks allow for a longer burn and often have a soft crackling sound when lit, reminiscent of a classic log fire. There is no carbon build-up and less debris, ensuring to be a cleaner burn.
  • I am struggling to keep my candle lit, what do I do?"
It is important that when you first light your candle, you allow it to burn until the wax is completely melted to the edge of the vessel. This will prevent tunnelling and allow the wick to breathe. If tunnels occur, occasionally the wick can become drowned in wax and will then put itself out. If this occurs, scrape some wax out from around the wick. Remove ashed wick and tilt candle to the side to light, ensuring that fresh wick is lit. Wooden wicks can be tricky and can occasionally need a couple of attempts to light. Because they are natural, there can be knots in the wood or slight imperfections that we can not see. If you are still unhappy with the burn, please send a picture to info@phosphocandleco.com.au and we will try to help you out.
  • What type of wax is used in Phospho Candles?
Phospho candles uses premium 100% natural soy wax, specifically formulated for candles. It is biodegradable and vegan friendly. It is not tested on any animals and is manufactured meeting FDA standards. Phospho soy wax is non-toxic and burns clean with less soot and less smoke than normal candles. This environmentally friendly wax is also easily cleaned in hot soapy water.
  • Can I reuse/recycle my Phospho jar?
YES! Recycle, refill, reuse. Phospho has a refill/recycle program. Our candle jars are made of glass or ceramic and may potentially weaken after prolonged used and therefore jars will be assessed for imperfections prior to being refilled. We absolutely encourage you to recycle or reuse your Phospho vessel for other purposes. To remove any residual wax, wash with warm soapy water – never pot wax down the drain as it will solidify and clog the sink. Our jars are perfect to store everyday items including plants, flowers, make up brushes, etc.
  • My candle surface looks imperfect?
Soy wax is sensitive to temperature changes and can occasionally release excess oil. To remove the oil, use a paper towel to gently wipe it clean. The natural wax may also begin to crystalise appearing whiter on top. Phospho candles are all hand poured and while every effort is taken to ensure consistency, each candle is unique and some imperfections may appear in appearance. These are not faults within the candle, simply a characteristic of natural wax and evidence of the use of natural wax. These will not affect the candle in any way and the burn time will remain unaffected.
